University of Abra (UA) La Paz Campus faculty participated in a three-day seminar-workshop on research writing with the theme “AFFIRM: ASIST Faculty Focused on the Internationalization of Research Mandates with Basic Research Writing and Preparation”, at the ASIST Training and Development Center (ATDC), Lagangilang Campus held on November 27-29, 2023.  The invited resource speakers, Prof. Rico C. Jacoba, PhD, DAPT, LPT, and Prof. Jeffrey M. Almazan, PhD, deepened the participants’ understanding of how to write research focused on Social Sciences.

Ms. Ciela Marie Pacopia explained to the participants the activity's rationale and purpose, which is one of the Faculty Re-engineering Academy for Masterclasses and Excellence (FRAME) Project programs.

On the other hand, Deputy Director for Research, Dr. Nero M. Paderes, welcomed and informed the participants regarding Futures Thinking and Strategic Foresight supporting the activity.  Dr. Paderes also expressed his hopes that after the 3-day activity, the faculty participants would be able to produce scholarly research outputs for publication.

Furthermore, Dr. Gregorio T. Turqueza Jr., UA President, and Dr. Noel B. Begnalen, Vice President for Academic Affairs, delivered their messages, both inspiring and challenging the participants and expressing their gratitude to Dr. Jacoba and Dr. Almazan.

During the three-day seminar-workshop, the resource speakers discussed and explained to the participants specific steps in generating research proposals and  strategies for collecting, coding, and interpreting empirical and qualitative data.  Several workshops on identifying research focus, constructing research questions or objectives, and writing the whole paper including the techniques of finding relevant related studies that support the participants’ claims were also conducted.

The activity culminated with a closing ceremony.  Before the participants received their certificates, Dr. Pablo B. Bose Jr., Director for Research and Development, encouraged the participants to finish and complete their outputs ready for presentation on the next Agency In-house Review and future regional, national, and international research conferences.
